Finger Lakes Waterfall Hiking and Wine Tasting Tour

$1200 per person

In upstate New York, the Finger Lakes region brings together two fabulous experiences for an active traveler who likes a tasting reward at the end of a hike – numerous trails that lead to waterfalls (literally hundreds of them!) and a wine region with lots of vineyards for tastings. Many of the wineries also produce their own craft beer and cider, so if you would rather go that route to quench your thirst after a hike, just go for it!

September 10 - Day One
Welcome to New York. Arrive before 3p to Greater Rochester International Airport and private group transfer to hotel accommodations in the Finger Lakes region. (90 min. drive). If there’s time, we can do a nature walk before our welcome dinner featuring a talk by a local naturalist who will tell us about the waterfalls, lakes, wildlife and unique geology of the area. Overnight Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars or similar. (D)

September 11 - Day Two
After breakfast, we’ll go to Watkins Glen State Park, named one of the top three state parks in the country. We’ll hike the 1.5-mile Gorge Trail (500 ft. elevation gain) that features 19 waterfalls. It’s an enchanting setting and the spectacular stone trails you’ll walk on were crafted by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s. There are over 800 steps on this trail, but plenty of places to stop, rest and enjoy the views along the way. There is a decent amount of shade as well in the canyon. Afterwards, it’s time to hit up the Seneca Lake Wine Trail with roughly 40 wineries on this lake (Seneca) so let’s taste away. We’ll plan to taste at 3-4 of some of the best ones. Another awesome feature of the Finger Lakes is the creameries scattered around. We’ll stop a good one, where they will let us taste about 10 of their cheese varieties. Overnight Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars  or similar. (B, D)

September 12 - Day Three
After breakfast we head over to Robert Treman State Park and get warmed up doing the .5 miles round-trip loop on paved flat surface to view Enfield Falls. But if we are feeling spunky today, we can extend and do the 2 miles Rim to Gorge Trail (300 ft. elevation gain) to the falls for a nice overhead view as well. Not far away is Buttermilk Falls State Park where we’ll hike the 1.5 mile Gorge and Rim Trail Loop to their fantastic falls. (450 ft.elevation gain) Next up, today’s tastings will be via a small private boat cruise on Cayuga Lake, which touts itself as having America’s first wine trail. There are about 20 wineries on this lake, many with their own docks. We’ll plan to taste at 3-4 of some of the best ones. After freshening up back at the hotel we’ll have our farewell dinner. Overnight Inn at Glenora Wine Cellars or similar. (B, D)

September 13 - Day Four
This morning we’ll do one last hike in Taughannock Falls State Park and do the Gorge Trail. It is a 2 mile out and back hike (250 ft. elevation gain) to the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains! After lunch we’ll check-out of our hotel and private group transfer to Greater Rochester International Airport for our evening flights back home. (B)
